I don’t write specifically for kids. My stories are usually geared toward young adults, starting around preteens, but honestly, anyone can jump into the adventures I create!

The idea for Pirates and Witches and Other Obsessions came up during a conversation with a friend who suggested I write their life story—as a fantasy novel! After a few drafts, I thought, why not take it into the steampunk world? That’s when the ideas really started flowing. Some ideas come from dreams that feel almost too real, and I can’t resist revisiting those worlds. Other times, I’ll be scrolling through pictures, and the way certain images fit together sparks a mini story in my mind. Inspiration hits from all kinds of places, expected and unexpected—I just keep my eyes open and my imagination ready!

I try to write every day. It can be a challenge with life getting in the way, but if I skip a day, I get a bit cranky. My routine is pretty simple—I sit down at the computer whenever I get a chance and pick up right where I left off in the story.

I once managed to finish a novel in a month, but I had to stick to a strict schedule—and honestly, the writing wasn’t that great. I didn’t have time to really focus on plot twists, cliffhangers, or adding those exciting moments. I was so fixated on the deadline that the story ended up feeling pretty flat. I never actually throw a book away, but I don’t revisit that one much. Someday, though, I’d love to rewrite it and give it the attention it deserves. Usually, it takes me close to a year to write a book the way I want, but sometimes less. It all depends on how much I love the characters and hanging out in their world.
