When I dive into the world of steampunk, several films spark my creativity and fuel my imagination. Here are some that inspire me the most:

This classic film is a treasure trove of steampunk inspiration. From the hot air balloon the Wizard plans to use to take Dorothy home, to the intricate mechanisms like the lever to get the Scarecrow off the hook, and the Tin Man's oil can, it’s filled with delightful details. The journey to the Emerald City and the whimsical characters—some made of straw—capture the essence of adventure. The Easter eggs throughout, hinting that it was all a dream, add layers that inspire my writing. Even the imaginative names of the cities make me want to create worlds of my own.

Though I haven’t seen the movie adaptation yet, the book series has left a significant mark on my writing. The story of a town on the brink of losing everything, powered by a failing underground machine, is steeped in intrigue. The town's secrets, the characters' bonds, and the sense of fear and mystery in venturing beyond known boundaries resonate with the steampunk aesthetic. It’s the perfect blend of dystopia and hope that inspires my characters and settings.

This adaptation offers a fresh take on the element of discovery in a strange, whimsical world. Meeting characters like the Mad Hatter, who historically went mad due to chemicals, adds depth to the fantasy. His attire is a fascinating mix of historical accuracy and whimsical updates, making him a perfect inspiration for a steampunk character. The world Alice navigates is vibrant and strange, sparking endless possibilities in my writing.

The vibrant visuals and unique character designs in *Wonka* are a feast for the eyes. The factory, with its magical elements and inner workings, inspires dreams and innovation. It’s a place where imagination runs wild, and that energy flows into my steampunk worlds, where magic and machinery often intertwine to create fantastical adventures.

The exhilarating hot air balloon adventure in *The Aeronauts* reminds us that such journeys weren’t always leisurely. The dangers faced, from changing weather to the intricacies of navigation, provide thrilling inspiration. This film deepens my appreciation for airships in steampunk, highlighting their adventurous and sometimes perilous nature.
Time travel has always been a fascinating concept, and *The Time Machine* captures the magic of it perfectly. The protagonist’s passion for his invention and his excitement over new gadgets align well with steampunk themes. It’s not just about traveling through time; it’s about the love of discovery and innovation that fuels my stories.
All these movies have a hint of steampunk that immerses me in their worlds and inspires my own storytelling. They drive me to weave together elements of adventure, mystery, and discovery in my work, creating narratives that captivate and excite.
I invite you to join me in my steampunk adventure when Pirates and Witches and Other Obsessions coming 2025. Let’s explore these wondrous worlds together!
